In its second evolution, the Railton Special was sponsored by Mobil in order to break its own speed record (set in 1938). After World War II, this vehicle designed by Reid Railton set off for the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1947 where, driven by John Cobb, broke its own record with a speed of 394.19 mph / 634.39 km/h (in the lap left behing the legendary 400 mph barrier). This record would remain unbroken for no less than 18 years.
