Maserati Tipo 61 “Birdcage” (1960)

Engine belonging to Maserati’s innovative sports prototype, the ‘Birdcage’. Designed by the brilliant Giulio Alfieri, the displacement of this 4-cylinder alloy engine was increased to 2.9 litres in its Type 61 evolution, exceeding 250 PS. It also had double overhead camshafts and dual ignition. A 1/18 scale model from the series that CMC has dedicated to the ‘Birdcage’, showing a high level of detail (as can be seen in the wiring, carburetion and removable oil filler cap).
